History of the MGA

mga-logo-transparentAfter being active in several online genealogical bulletin boards (BBS), Steve Mashburn began this site as a Wildcat BBS in 1990. It appeared as the Mashburn Home Page on AOL in the summer of 1994.

In 1996, the site was moved to Avana, an Atlanta-based ISP service, and was renamed The Mashburn Genealogical Archives. The URL’s were http://mashburn.home.avana.net and http://www.avana.net/~mashburn/

When Avana left the home market, the site was moved to Rootsweb and renamed The Mashburn Genealogy Archives in order to get better placement on search engines on the word “genealogy.” The URL there was http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mashburngenealogy/

In 2011, the site was moved to its own domain, http://mashburngenealogy.com, on GoDaddy servers and Steve began moving his The Master Genealogist (TMG) files into The Next Generation Geneaology (TNG) which will now serve as our genealogical database. WordPress will be used as the content management system (CMS) for the site.

The process is now complete and all the material is now on the new website as of 1-16-2015.
