North Carolina Land Deeds

There are indications that an Edward Mashborne received land in Onslow Couty in 1715. We assume this is Edward the schoolmaster of Sarum.

As settlement of Onslow County did not effectively start until the 1730’s, it is believed that Edward the schoolmaster (who would have been 63 years old in 1737) never settled there.

Given that, then the following men were probably sons of the schoolmaster homesteading land that was left them by their father. In fact, Daniel was referred to as the “heir of Edward.”

Since Jones County and Duplin County are next to Onslow County and the following land deeds are a generation later, we believe that James, Matthew, and Thomas are possible grandsons of the schoolmaster.

Since the following all lived in the same neighborhood in Burke County, NC, they are, without a doubt, related to each other.

Furthermore, since the given names appear in the 1760 Will of Matthew Mashburn of Northampton County, NC, it is believed that they are his descendants.

Due to the similarities in given names, it is very difficult to tell who is who and how they are exactly related to each other.
